No More YouTube App!

YouTube is the world's second largest search engine, right behind Google and right before Yahoo!  It is where you look up the day-to-day "How-To" videos, find music videos, create channels, and if you're the outgoing-type, it's a great place to express yourself.  You may even get famous like Justin Beiber or Rebecca Black... even Jefferson Bethke.  But the question of the day has been - do you use the YouTube app that seems to be planted on every phone and tablet?  YouTube is a Google-product, yet it was on every version of the iPhone and iPad until... today.

Today, Apple has announced the ending of its contract with YouTube where it agreed to feature the YouTube app on their phones and tablets.  It will not be featured on the iOS6 operating system for the future phones and tablets and if you really want it, you will have to go download it onto your device yourself.  Some see this as a serious relief as the functionality of the YouTube app is seriously lacking.  Many YouTube fans have already switched to the mobile YouTube site, m.youtube.com on Safari where you can find about three times more on any given search.

Apple is making a huge separation from Google-owned and operated products and service because they've recently become the competition.  Following the iPad with the Nexus 7, following the iPhone with the Android, but that's not the only area that they compete.  Google owns apps like Google Maps, Google Places, etc. but Apple basically owns the word "App."   So maybe the separation between Apple and the YouTube app was actually a strategic move on Apple's part.

Do you use the YouTube app on your iPhone, tablet, or iPod?  If not, why?  Please share with us!
