Democrats & Republicans will take the debates to social media. |
The presidential
election is coming up this November and political campaign managers and party
representatives are leveraging social media to reach voters. Historically, the
18-25 year old voting demographic is least likely to vote. However, Obama and
Romney are positioning their values and party image to appeal to the young
voting generation. It's no debate that this election will be taken to the social media arena. Click on either candidates' names above to connect with their Facebook pages!

Tampa, Florida will experience an influx of 15,000 journalists
next week as delegates, lobbyists and party activists join for the Republican
National Convention. The week following the RNC will be the Democratic National
Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Each presidential election increases
in the amount of advertising dollars spent. Today PAC funds are dedicated to
producing pre-packaged, made-for-TV
events designed to showcase each nominee to a nightly audience of about 20
million people. Politicians are sweet talkers and are quickly becoming savvy
with social media.
Social media madness for 2012. |
Twitter will be a very popular political tool in this election as
candidates jab each other online and update polls when it comes time for
voting. The 2012 election is significant because social media will be relied on
so heavily to track voting results and create viral marketing to appeal to
voters. In 2004, the Democratic Party allowed bloggers at the convention, but
this election in 2012 will see social media become mainstream. Some political
reporters are referring to this election as the Bitter Twitter campaign because
jabs are taken in 140 characters or less and then sensationalized on the news
networks and popular blogs.
When it comes to the presidential election, a lot of what it comes
down to is what party can create the most noise and effectively leverage the
advertising channels to reach more voters. I guarantee Facebook, Twitter and YouTube
will be capturing all the debates and future promises so that whoever is
elected into office will always have a record of what was said.

Pandora radio has
embraced the 2012 presidential election by running ads for Democrats and
Republicans that target listeners by zipcode and those who enjoy the free
version of Pandora. TV ads are proven to increase awareness, but social media
offers the ability for followers to engage and be more involved than just
watching a TV message.
