Redbox Instant by Verizon

Redbox plans to stream movies by December 2012
How do you rent and watch movies? Do you prefer streaming or having a physical disc in your hand? Well, Redbox is not only inexpensive, but it offers both options. Redbox recently made a partnership with Verizon that will enable Verizon customers to stream movies through their smart devices. Redbox Instant by Verizon is expected to launch by this December.

It may come as a shocker, but Redbox is actually a segment of Bellevue-based, Coinstar, Inc. This 12 square feet of red retail holds up to 600 discs and offers a variety of 200 titles for video games and movies. DVDs and Blu-rays can be rented for 24 hours for only $1.29 with tax and video games are $2 per night.

Redbox is owned by Coinstar, Inc.
Redbox was founded in 2002 and started with 100 locations in McDonald's restaurants. In only ten years, this number has grown to almost 40,000 locations across the United States with a rental transaction occurring every 40 seconds. To celebrate their 10 year anniversary, Redbox offered a promo code this Wednesday for a free, one night rental valid for that day only. However, if you reserve and order movie online, then your next rental is free.

With technology evolving every 18 months, Redbox has positioned itself to be convenient for all consumers and savvy for the changing rental services industry. More than 68% of the U.S. population lives within a five minute drive of a Redbox.

The company has a very effective and strategic marketing campaign that is low-cost, but makes a big impact. Redbox advertises on social media channels, relies heavily on e-mail marketing and generates a lot of business through its mobile app. Almost 5 million people are Facebook Fans with Redbox and the Redbox app has been downloaded millions of times on both the Android and Apple marketplaces.

Redbox is contributing $14 million to the joint venture with Verizon and will own 35% of the partnership. Be prepared to stream movies direct to your smartphone or tablet by this December.
