New Lookout app can find phones when battery is dead

Most of us have misplaced our phones, only to waste a large amount of our day hunting it down.  Typically, we just ask the closest person with a cell phone to dial our number - hoping that we can hear it ring or vibrate nearby.  The only challenge occurs when we lose our phones just as the battery is about to die.

The newly redesigned app from Lookout Mobile Security not only protects your phone, but offers a unique new feature that can help you track down your mobile device when the battery is dead.

Released on October 9th, the updated Lookout app has a great amount of new features.  Some of these include protection from dialer-based attacks (many people probably don't know what these are even), an activity log of threats your phone receives, and most importantly - the Signal Flare feature.  As your phone is dying, this feature automatically flags the last location that your phone was in.  The company even reports that 30% of those who can't locate their mobile device say that the battery died somewhere during the process.

While the app still offers protection for your mobile device, the app can now log the location of the phone right as the battery dies.  This information can be accessed online - increasing the probability of users finding their lost or stolen device.  These updates are currently only available for the Android app, but Lookout says that it hopes to release a redesigned iOS version in the near future.
