Zuckerberg "Likes" this party!

Facebook now has 1 billion active users.

Facebook has hit the 1 billion active user milestone this Thursday! The social site has grown from a college dorm room at Harvard to being the number one platform for people, non-profits and businesses to communicate with family, friends, followers and customers. To celebrate this accomplishment, Facebook launched a video ad comparing how the social site connects people just like other objects we interact with every day.

According to CNN, Zuckerberg and other Facebook employees posted the new video ad on their Facebook pages. Facebook registered 500 million active users in a time frame of only six years and needed only two years more to reach 1 billion users. The 90 second video will not see air time, but will be passed around virally and featured on a website that anyone can visit.

The main message of the video was to resemble how Facebook is the portal for connections in the world. The marketing aim is to appeal to current users, but to also attract non-users by representing what the company believes in and expressing its personality. Zuckerberg's slogan for this campaign is that "connecting with others is 'what makes us human.'" Facebook is leveraging this milestone to break into other market areas which include the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, India, Japan, Russia, the Philippines and Indonesia.
